Skin Conditions: Treatment Options

Whether you’re facing new or lifelong skin conditions, DermMedica can help. Our full-service clinic is dedicated to providing comfortable, non-invasive skin treatments. Many skin concerns can be treated or even reversed, and thanks to modern technology, we’re so much more effective at it than we were only a few short years ago.

Our laser and skincare clinic is headed by Dr. Craig Crippen MD CCFP FCFP, who has been helping patients fall in love with their own skin again for over a decade now. Dr. Crippen is holds a number of certifications in some of the most effective cosmetic devices in use today, including several types of therapeutic laser systems.

Many different skin conditions can be effectively treated at our clinic. You can learn more about each of them by clicking on one of the links below. Please call if you have any questions about the services we offer:

Acne Treatments

Acne is a common problem that doesn’t affect everyone the same way. Some people may experience whiteheads, blackheads, inflamed lesions or other types of uncomfortable bumps. It is normal for acne to be painful, and permanent facial scarring can result when acne goes untreated for too long a time.

Here at our BC skincare clinic, we can treat acne a variety of different ways. You can learn more about acne prevention and each of these treatment methods by visiting our Acne page.

  •         Chemical Peels
  •         Erbium Laser Treatments
  •         Fractional CO2 Laser
  •         Photodynamic Therapy
  •         Vbeam Laser

Birthmark Treatments

Birthmarks are marks on your skin that developed either before or immediately after you were born. While they can be frustrating to those that have them, they are almost always harmless and painless. At our Kelowna skincare clinic, we can reduce the visibility of birthmarks with a variety of different methods including our gold standard VBeam Laser or our effective Q-Switch Laser treatments.

On our birthmark page, you’ll be able to find information about the different kinds of birthmarks we treat, and which solution works best for them. You can even see some before and after photos of the treatments we’ve recommended. We encourage you to call with any additional questions.

Botox Jaw Reduction Treatments

An overdeveloped Masseter muscle can give women a masculine look that they may not find pleasing.

Many previous jaw reduction treatments required invasive surgeries, but that’s no longer the case. Our clinic can use injections to weaken and diminish the muscles involved. Find more information on our Botox jaw reduction treatment here.

This non-invasive procedure requires simple injections, so there is no down time. However, some people are very prone to Masseter muscle development, and repeat injections every four to six months may be necessary to maintain results.

Hyperhidrosis Treatments

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessive sweating, even in situations where nothing happening should trigger the body to sweat, such as when the body is resting. This can be a very embarrassing condition, and can cause personal and professional problems when left untreated. Fortunately, treatment is possible. Learn about our Hyperhidrosis treatments today.

While the body can’t be prevented from producing sweat very easily, our clinic can use Botox injections to manage perspiration in certain places, such as from the hands. Our Miradry treatment reduces underarm sweat using the latest technology. Visit our page or schedule a free consultation to learn more about our sweating treatments.

Melasma Treatments

Melasma is a skin discoloration that may appear anywhere on the body that gets frequent sun exposure. It typically appears in ruddy patches that may spread symmetrically on the face. Cases are more common with women who have had children, and female hormones in particular are a contributing factor.

Here at the clinic, we approach Melasma with several different melanin treatments, including one that you can find here.

Dr. Crippen has discovered that a special laser together with topical medicated creams can be used very effectively to reduce the visibility of this condition. Depending on your needs, he may also recommend:

  •         Chemical Peels
  •         Fractional CO2 Laser
  •         IPL
  •         Skin Care Products

Pearly Penile Papules

Also known as hirsutoid papillomas, pearly penile papules (or PPP) refers to little white spots that appear around the base of your penis’ head. They tend to be around 1 to 4 mm in diameter, look like small pimples, and often happen in little clusters, rings, or rows rather. Because of the location and appearance, they can often be mistaken for a sexually transmitted disease like genital warts, but PPP tend to be smaller and protrude less. If you have them, it is entirely due to your genetics and not something you could have avoided.

If you have PPP, however, you might have encountered romantic partners who were afraid that it was an STI. Thankfully, you can get rid of them with a C02 laser treatment — it takes only a few minutes to perform with minimal risk, and you can completely remove them so the skin looks normal and healthy. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.

Rosacea Treatments

Rosacea is a condition marked by chronic inflammation of the face. The whole face may be affected, but inflammation is usually most evident on the cheeks, nose, chin and around the eyes. The inflammation may produce swelling, and make irritated veins more visible.

Blindness can result from untreated cases of rosacea, so make sure that it is assessed by a doctor as soon as possible. If you want to diminish the veins, redness and other visible symptoms of rosacea, you can contact our clinic.

Skin Cancer Treatments

There are many kinds of skin cancer, but all of them represent the growth of abnormal skin cells. Any sore or lump on your skin may develop into one of the many types of skin cancer, so make sure you closely observe any new growths on your skin.

Not all types of skin cancer are dangerous, but most of them create unpleasant spots on your skin, and you can visit our Kelowna skin care clinic to be rid of them. We have treatments to match the many different kinds and placements of growths including

  •         Surgical Excision
  •         Erbium Laser
  •         Fractional CO2 Laser
  •         Photodynamic Therapy

You can visit our skin cancer page to learn more about symptoms, causes and treatments. We treat most kinds of unwanted growths including simple skin cancers and sebaceous cysts.

Sun Damage Treatments

Repeated sun exposure can cause a lot of damage to the elastic fibers that hold skin together. Evident damage and growths such as skin cancer can result from old age, frequent sun exposure and even just fair skin. At our clinic, sun damage is treated with some of the most modern methods available.

Call our clinic today to set an appointment to discuss which of these treatments would be best for you:

  •         BOTOX
  •         Chemical Peels
  •         Erbium Laser
  •         Fractional CO2 Laser
  •         IPL
  •         Photodynamic Therapy

Spider Vein & Varicose Vein Treatments

Spider veins and varicose veins are caused when the valves in the body that direct blood flow stop working correctly. Blood can remain in the veins when it should have been moved, causing swollen veins, redness and pain.

We can deal with all of the symptoms of spider veins here at our Kelowna vein clinic. Every case is different, and we have many different types of treatments available. You can contact our office today to find out the best ones for you, or visit our vein page below to learn more about causes and treatments.
