Highlighting The Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

By: Dr. Craig Crippen

In my last blog, I described an incident that had my friends and I experiencing quite a laugh together. One of them admitted to buying a hair removal product that she saw on a late night infomercial. The hand held device was not a shaver of any kind, but it purported to remove hair quickly and without pain.

Let’s just say the product was not as advertised. Laser hair removal, on the other hand, is a treatment that is growing in popularity because of its fantastic results. WebMD.com explains that it is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States.

And no wonder it is! There’s nothing worse than constantly getting razor bumps, nicks and other scratches when trying to shave, wax and tweeze our ways to ultimate smoothness. Avoiding such nuisances is easily one of the greatest benefits of getting laser hair removal. But what are the other benefits?

Precision. According to WebMD.com, lasers used during the procedure work to selectively target dark and coarse hairs. This means that the surrounding skin can be left undamaged. The precision of the procedure is one of the reasons why annoying bumps and scars can be avoided.

Speed. Laser hair removal is able to treat many hairs all at the same time. The website notes that lasers are able to treat an area that is about the size of a quarter every second! In some areas, such as the upper lip, it literally just takes a minute to treat. Obviously, the bigger the area, the longer it takes, but this is one hair appointment that won’t take all day. You ladies know what I mean!

Predictability. Ninety percent of patients have permanent hair loss after an average of three to five sessions, reveals WebMD.com. This, of course, is another key reason why the procedure is so popular. It means that you pretty much never have to bother with shaving, waxing or tweezing ever again. Which brings up another benefit…

Saves Money. Imagine never having to buy another package of razors again. No more shaving cream either. Forget those waxing strips and do away with those tweezers. Think about how much money you spend on these items every week or every month. In the long run, you can’t help but come out ahead!

For more information on laser hair removal procedures, be sure to contact a licensed physician or skin care specialist. Naturally, it is always best to consult a professional. And if you’re anything like my friends and I, you’ll be happy to never again have to deal with the regular painstaking processes of keeping ourselves smooth and hair free.
