By: Dr. Craig Crippen @ DermMedica

Jane Iredale - Mineral MakeUp

jane_iredale_kelowna_clinic_dermmedica.JPGJane has always thought of makeup as an essential part of a woman's sense of well-being and she wanted to make that easy to achieve.  That's why her mineral powders are a foundation, powder, concealer and sunscreen all in one, and why every product in the line is multi-functional.  Her goal is to make products that look good, feel good and are good for the skin.  Products must be easy to apply, as well, so that a woman can be her best in the shortest amount of time.

Featurescellex-c_serum_kelowna_dermmedica.jpg

An advanced patented serum formulation available through physicians and skin care professionals only.

Cellex-C is the only skin care line in the world licensed to utilize the Bioderm patents created by Dr. Faxon-Meisner.

Contains 17.5% vitamin C in a scientifically formulated combination of hydrolized and free-form L-ascorbic acid—the only form of vitamin C that the body can recognize and utilize for collagen production.

Contains hydrolized ascorbic acid—an exciting development in cosmetic chemistry because its chemical structure enables it to bypass the normal conversion required by the skin to facilitate entry into the skin cell, where it is utilized to promote collagen synthesis.

Contains Resveratrol—an exceptional free radical scavenger extracted primarily from mulberries and grapes. Resveratrol is believed to protect collagen through two mechanisms: 1) by inhibiting enzymes that degrade collagen, and 2) by supporting existing collagen structures. The distinctive golden pink color is derived from the resveratrol content.

Contains grape seed extract—a rich source of proanthocyanidins, nutritionally supports the micro-vascular health of the skin by protecting cells within capillaries from free radical damage.

Contains glycine—an important amino acid building block essential for the formation glutathione, part of the skin’s natural anti-oxidant defence system.

Contains L-ergothioneine—a natural super anti-oxidant present in tissues which are subject to high oxidative stress.

Benefits

High levels of L-ascorbic acid—both free-form and hydrolized—coupled with powerful anti-oxidant protection make this formulation the most important skin saving product in your daily skincare regime.

Regular use may dramatically reduce the visible signs of aging—fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and sagging skin.

Can help you look 5 to 10 years younger.

Helps increase the elasticity and resilience of the skin to greatly reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Treated skin will gradually appear firmer and smoother with improved texture, tone and overall radiance.

This formulation is extremely well tolerated and can be used by the majority of people without fear of troublesome skin reactions—such as sensitivity to sunlight—that may occur with other skin smoothing preparations.

  • What you should know about the sun...
  • It causes 90% of all skin cancers:
  • Overcast days are not much safer than those that are sunny, as 70-80% of the sun's ultraviolet rays can get through the clouds.
  • The sun is about 80% stronger when reflected off sand and snow.
  • The sun's rays increase in intensity about 4% for every 1,000-foot rise in altitude.
  • It's better to play or engage in sports before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m. If that's not possible, try to avoid being out at high noon.
  • The sun weakens the immune system, reducing your defense against infection.
  • In general, kids can get all the vitamin D they need for strong bones from fortified milk, salmon, vitamin supplements and/or brief, casual sun exposure.

The Functions of Human Skin

The skin is the largest organ of the body. This elastic, protective covering is thinnest on the lips and eyelids and thickest on the palms and soles. Following are the six primary functions of the skin:

Heat regulation – the skin regulates body temperature by sweating, which is the production of moisture by the sweat glands (suderiforous glands). The evaporation of this moisture enables the body to cool itself.

Absorption – the epidermis layer of the skin contains an acid mantle layer which limits the amount of substances entering though the skin that affect the body to a minor degree.

Secretion – the sebaceous glands excrete oil to lubricate and maintain the health of the skin.

Protection – fat cells provide insulation and protection against trauma to the internal organs. The skin also protects itself from the harmful effects of light and acts as a barrier against the invasion of bacteria.

Excretion – perspiration is the process by which the sweat glands excrete waste materials.

Sensation – nerve endings in the skin allow us to feel heat, cold, touch, pleasure, pressure and pain.

PCA-Professional Treatments

PCA SKIN offers a variety of PCA Professional™ Chemical peels to help rejuvenate skin and eliminate sun spots.  Chemical peels are a safe and effective way to treat sun damaged skin for all skin types.

Patients with darker skin types are usually not good candidates for laser skin treatments so a chemical peel may be the best option to help with problem skin conditions.
