Q-Switch Laser

A Q-Switch Laser uses pulses of light energy to remove tattoo ink or other natural pigmentations (Birthmarks, Brown Spots) from the skin.

How Does a Q-Switch Laser Work?

Light energy in the Q-Switch Laser is used to rapidly heat the ink or natural pigmentation in the skin. The area targeted is slightly damaged so as to cause the body to breakdown the colored/pigmented cells and replace them with new, un-pigmented skin.

What Conditions Does a Q-Switch Laser Treat?

What is the Procedure?

At Kelowna Vein Clinic the average Q-Switch Laser appointment at is 5-10 minutes.  Due to the slight discomfort caused by the treatment, an anesthetic cream is applied 2 hours before the treatment.  Patients are scheduled to arrive at the office earlier in the day, receive the anesthetic cream to the treatment area, and then return to the office for the brief appointment. Although anesthetic cream is recommended it is not required for the treatment.

What is the Recovery Time?

1 week - During recovery many patients experience scabbing, blistering, oozing, or slight irritation during the healing process.

What Are the Expected Results?

Patients can expect gradual fading of a Birthmark, Brown Spot, or Tattoo.  4-8 treatments are usually recommended for maximum results with the exact number of treatments depending on the depth of the ink/natural pigmentation and the size of the treatment area.
