Local Excision

Local Excision is the surgical removal of unwanted skin tissue, primarily Moles/Skin Tags, Sebaceous Cysts, or Skin Cancer.

How Does Local Excision Work?

Local Excision involves the use of basic surgical equipment to cut out unwanted tissues from the skin.

What Conditions Does Local Excision Treat?

What is the Procedure?

At Kelowna Vein Clinic, the average Local Excision appointment is 20 minutes. Local anesthetic is applied to the treatment area, completely freezing surrounding tissue to prevent unnecessary discomfort. The unwanted tissue is then excised and the skin is closed with stitches or sutures and bandaged.

What is the Recovery Time?

5-7 days – The excision wound is expected to close over in the first 5-7 days at which time patients can return to the office for stitch removal. Patients are likely to experience redness and tenderness around the treated area for a week to several months. To ensure proper healing patients are encouraged to treat the excision area with care, maintain proper cleanliness and moisture.

What Are the Expected Results?

All undesired tissue should be completely removed. In rare situations a maintenance treatment will be necessary to remove residual tissue or minor re-growth after the initial procedure.
